28mm American War of Independence Project

During this Covid-19 pandemic, I've been able to brink out my 28mm AWI figures and start painting in mass.  So, here are some progress photos from beginning to end. I've managed to paint about 250+ AWI infantry and artillery figures over the last few months.  

Painting a British Unit, or 2, or 3, or 4:

Figures are primed black and now have a white dry brush over the top. 

Started painting the coats in red. 

Painting of the cuffs, collars, and coat trim for each unit. 

Painting flesh on the hands and faces.  Now they start to look like actual people. lol. 

Trousers and gaiters are painted white.  The boots and hats are painted black. 

Time to get the rifles started.  Painted the wood brown. 

The back of the figures get some attention as canteens, haversacks, and cartridge boxes are painted. Then white is applied to the leather cross belts.  

These troops have received a black wash for the details, and then lightly dry-brushed as if marching in the sun. 

The figures have been removed from the tongue depressors and glued to 1" metal fender washers.

The bases have had white glue applied and covered in sand and fine ballast.  Then they were painted a nice earthen color with a brown wash over the ballast. 

Once dry, the base gets a light tan dry-brush over the sand and ballast. 

Glue is placed selectively on the base and then dipped into a green mix flocking. Make sure to leave areas of sand and ballast show through for a varied effect. 

Of course, the last step, which I don't have a picture of, is to add/glue a couple of 'grass tufts' to each base...grass green, spring green, yellow-green, etc.; whichever is appropriate.    

20mm Modern Iraqi Army

I've been a little lazy not posting to my gaming blog in a while.  But since the Covid-19 seclusion and social distancing has begun, I have had a lot of time to catch up on painting and building projects.

My latest additions: 20mm Modern Iraqi Army. 

Here we have some armored and support vehicles.  There are a variety of MBT's, BMP-1, Rocket Launcher, M8 Greyhound (In Iraqi colors) and a Russian Truck. (Russian/Iraqi aircraft are next, as I will be doing an Allied attack on an Iraqi airbase.)

Here are the Infantry.  The bases have been finished since this picture was taken.

Iraqi infantry special forces, or AKA the Republican Guard.  I used a couple of different camo paint schemes to differentiate the units. (I used some 1/72 plastic Russian Spetznatz for these)

Iraqi Infantry grunts in standard green uniforms and tan covered helmets, armed with a variety of Russian weapons. These are metal miniatures from unknown manufacturer. 

These are just before I added rocks and flocking to the bases. 

20mm Modern 'UN' forces.

I've mentioned my 20mm Modern UN forces in passing blog posts for some of my modern miniature games, but never really posted pics of the forces in their entirety.

These UN forces make great additions to my games as peacekeepers and such; delivering convoys of food and aid, manning a road checkpoint, or just trying to keep the peace in a troubled neighborhood.

The forces are composed of a variety of vehicles and trucks that one might expect to be found around the world.  I think the troops I painted were generic Russian infantry with AK-47's and light gear, painted with the typical light blue beret to distinguish them as peacekeepers.

 

The sum total of my United Nations (UN) forces.

 

Here's some of the peacekeepers themselves.  I had the extra 1/72nd scale Russian plastic infantry figures, so why not paint them up and put them to some good use.

Here's a modified Corgi Humvee and an M113.  Note the 'UN' flag on the M113. 

Here's some repainted Matchbox Landrover 4x4's.

Side by side view of the same Forces of Valour 1/72nd scale M113.  For the 'UN' conversion, the side 'baggage' and cages was removed and saved.  The armor and blast shield around the gunner position was removed.  The antennae was re-purposed for the UN flag.  Some of the removed baggage was added back to the top of the vehicle.

Here are my UN forces in action, escorting a convoy of food through an Iraqi neighborhood.

At this point in the game, a US squad and Humvee from a road checkpoint rushes to the rescue of the UN convoy being overrun by Jihadist's.

28mm Samurai Miniatures

Here's some pics of what's left of my current Samurai Clan.

 

Our local gaming group each had a clan of figures and painted them in 'sports team' colors.  I chose the red/black scheme and these were my Samurai Bulls.

 

 

Most of my custom Japanese Terrain/buildings was left behind in Tallahassee when I left.  The wooden gate is all I have left of the walled compound.

6mm Star Wars "Battle of Hoth"

Here's some pics of my 6mm Battle of Hoth miniatures. I use a home-brew set of rules, but also use the WEG (West End Games) edition of 'Battle of Hoth".

The AT-AT's are Ertyl Models. Each model also comes with 2 snowspeeders and a Rebel Golan Turret.  The Shield Generator in the lower right is custom made. The Snowspeeders have a hole drilled through them to slide up and down on the wire, mounted to a metal washer and nut. A small piece of foam below the speeder keeps it at the desired height.

The Rebel Hoth troopers are modified 6mm Epic Eldar, with their cone-shaped heads re-sculpted (a nip and tuck here and there) to resemble the Rebel Hoth 'Kepi'.   

The Imperial Snowtroopers are also modified 6mm Epic Eldar.  Again, with the heads re-shaped to resemble Imperial troops.

I needed a 'downed' rebel pilot or a few, so I converted some more epic.  

In addition to the snowspeeder models that came with the walkers, I also have the Micromachine Snowspeeders which are identical in size.

 

For additional Rebel and Imperial troops, you can also find them in the Rebel Transport/Echo Base model from Ertyl. It also comes with a model of the Rebel Transport and a Millenium Falcon. 

 

Celebrating 25,000+ views

In Celebration of 25,000+ views of my gaming blog, I found these pictures of a team I need to have miniatures for to 'flesh out' my Bloodbowl teams.  Enjoy.

Here are some pictures of my Clone army to date.

 These are all of the larger vehicles. The black base vehicles are all from WOTC.  The AT-RT's (left) are Micromachine/Titanium Toy miniatures.  The Assault Tank (left) is a Transformer/vehicle.  The AT-TE (right) is another Transformer/vehicle while the other AT-TE (center) is an Action Fleet vehicle.  The Turbo Tank (Rear) is a Play set.  The Republic Gunship/Transport (center) is another transformer/Vehicles.  The other 2 gunships (left and right rear)  are metal die-cast Titanium vehicles.     

 These are all of my Clone Troopers (WOTC), including specialists, commandos and etc. 

Here are more of my Jedi Knights (WOTC), in addition to all of the metal ones that I have. I certainly have enough Jedi for the Battle of Geonosis!

My Droid/Speratists Army...

Here are some pictures of my Droid army to date.

 Here are all of the oversized vehicles.  Most are from WOTC (Black Bases).  The MTT (upper left) is an Action Fleet vehicle.  One of the AAT's (left) is a Transformer/vehicle and the other AAT (Right) is an Action Fleet remote control vehicle.

Here are all of the ground forces that I have including battle droids, security droids, super battle droids, commando droids and General Grievous with his guards, and the Viceroy. (All WOTC)
